An unpublished item on Walmart Marketplace can’t be bought, even if it’s in stock. Walmart shows the reason for each one in Seller Center, and most can be fixed in minutes once you know where to look. This checklist covers the reasons Walmart lists and the fix for each. Details come from Walmart Marketplace Learn (updated November 25, 2025), checked September 2026.
Short answer
Open the Unpublished Items dashboard in Seller Center to see why each item is unpublished. The usual reasons are a missing primary image, a missing price, a shipping cost Walmart considers too high, a price Walmart considers unreasonable, a pricing error or a UPC mismatch. Fix the cause, and for pricing and shipping problems Walmart can take up to 48 hours to republish the item.
Reasons and fixes
| Reason in Seller Center | What to do | Republish time |
|---|---|---|
| Primary image missing | Update the item with a new primary image. | Not stated |
| Price missing | Add or update the item’s price. | Not stated |
| Egregious shipping cost | Lower the shipping fee in your shipping template so it’s in line with the market. | Up to 48 hours |
| Reasonable price not satisfied | Bring the price in line with what the item sells for now, using Walmart’s reference price as a guide. | Up to 48 hours |
| Pricing error | Correct the price using the reference price. If the price is intentional, submit documentation. | Up to 48 hours |
| UPC mismatch | Update the item’s product ID and resubmit. If Walmart is wrong, appeal from the dashboard. | Not stated |
Weekly checklist
- Open the Unpublished Items dashboard and sort by the items that sell most.
- Fix image and price problems first. They’re the quickest.
- Review shipping templates after any carrier rate change.
- Check prices after a sale ends or a supplier cost changes, so a price doesn’t jump too far.
- Match every product ID to the right GS1 barcode before you upload new items.
- Use bulk edit when the same problem hits many items.
- Recheck the dashboard 48 hours after pricing and shipping fixes.
Stop items going unpublished again
- Set up new items with a primary image, a price and every required attribute before you publish.
- Keep product IDs from your own GS1 company prefix, and don’t reuse a barcode across different products.
- Avoid big one-time price increases. Walmart compares your price with recent prices for the same item.
- Keep one person responsible for catalog changes, so fixes don’t overwrite each other.
