Walmart Canada (Walmart.ca) accepts marketplace sellers based in Canada, the USA and several other countries, and you don’t need a Canadian company or warehouse to apply. You do need a Canadian Business Number, French product content and a plan for Canadian taxes and imports. Here’s what Walmart asks for in 2026, what it costs, and the Canada-specific rules US sellers most often miss.
Who can sell on Walmart Canada?
Walmart says it accepts sellers based in Canada, the US, the UK, China, Hong Kong and India. Sellers from outside Canada don’t need to register their business in Canada. They do need a Canadian Business Number (BN) and to be set up as a Non-Resident Importer (NRI). Source: Walmart Marketplace Learn Canada, “FAQ”. Checked September 2026.
Documents to have ready
- A business number or business tax ID
- Government-issued photo ID
- A business verification document, such as articles of incorporation or a notice of registration
- A utility bill or bank statement from the last 6 months
- Canadian tax registration numbers, if you have them
- Customer service contact details and bank details

How to apply
- Submit an application with your business details, product range, marketplace experience and operations.
- Accept the Seller Agreement.
- If approved, you receive an invitation email to sign up.
- Complete your profile and connect payments.
- Add items, set up shipping and run test orders, then go live.
Walmart says the overall process can take 10–20 days. Already selling on Walmart.com? You still need a separate application and a separate Seller Center account, though Walmart says vetting is faster. Walmart decides who is approved.
What does it cost?
There’s no setup or monthly fee. Walmart.ca charges a referral fee when an item sells. Unlike Walmart.com, the Canadian rates are flat by category:
| Category | Referral fee |
|---|---|
| Personal Computers | 6% |
| Consumer Electronics, Cell Phones, Cameras, Major Appliances | 8% |
| Grocery, Gourmet Food | 10% |
| Automotive, Tools & Home Improvement, Musical Instruments | 12% |
| Apparel, Baby, Beauty, Home, Kitchen, Toys, Pet, Sporting Goods, Everything Else | 15% |
| Jewellery | 20% |

WFS Canada fulfillment starts at CAD $5.50 for items under 1 lb, and storage is CAD $0.80 per cubic foot per month (Walmart Marketplace Learn Canada, “WFS Fees”, updated June 26, 2026). New Seller Savings in Canada
First-time sellers who go live on Walmart.ca on or after February 1, 2026 get, until January 31, 2027: 50% off base referral fees on WFS-fulfilled items, 50% off WFS storage and 25% off WFS fulfillment, paid as quarterly rebates. French content: plan for it from day one
Walmart says you can go live with English content, but it expects French content to be uploaded immediately after, as required by law. Its content policy doesn’t allow English-only titles where bilingual presentation is required.
- Federal labelling: under the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act, mandatory label information must be in English and French (Competition Bureau Canada).
- Quebec: since June 1, 2025, a trademark registered in Canada can appear on a product in another language only if its generic or descriptive words also appear in French (Office québécois de la langue française). Products made before that date can be sold until June 1, 2027 in some cases.
Check your packaging before you send inventory, not after. This is general information, not legal advice.
Taxes and imports (high level)
- Sales tax: on Walmart.ca, sellers normally collect and remit taxes themselves, and enter their tax registrations in Seller Center. Walmart collects only where Canadian law requires it.
- GST/HST: sellers of goods register under the normal GST/HST rules once they’re above the small supplier threshold. The simplified registration is for digital products and services, not physical goods (Canada Revenue Agency).
- Importing: commercial importers need a Business Number and must register themselves in the CBSA’s CARM Client Portal, then give their customs broker access (Canada Border Services Agency).
- Tariffs: tariffs between Canada and the USA have changed several times in 2025 and 2026, and they can apply to goods you ship from the USA. Check your product codes against Finance Canada’s current list before you price, and see our 2026 tariffs guide.
Talk to a Canadian tax advisor or customs broker about your situation.
Fulfillment and returns
- Ship from anywhere: Walmart says you don’t need a Canadian warehouse. Seller-fulfilled standard shipping is 2–5 business days, with handling time of no more than 2 days.
- WFS Canada: for active Walmart.ca sellers, with fulfillment centres in Mississauga and Calgary. Walmart fulfills Walmart.ca orders to Canadian addresses.
- Returns: the minimum return window is 30 days (14 days for computers, phones and tablets). Customers can return items of CAD $250 or less at Walmart Canada stores. PO boxes and storage units aren’t accepted as return addresses.

How RetailerBox helps
Once you sell through WFS on Walmart.ca, inventory problems go through Seller Support cases rather than a published claim window, so raise every shortage, lost unit and unreturned refund as soon as you see it. Our team handles WFS and seller-fulfilled Walmart claims in the US and Canada and checks every credit when it’s paid. See our Walmart WFS reimbursement service and the claim windows table.
