How the Amazon vs Walmart profit calculator works
For each marketplace, the calculator takes your selling price and subtracts the referral fee, the fulfillment fee, your other per-unit costs and your landed cost:
Profit per unit = price − referral fee − fulfillment fee − other costs − landed cost
On Amazon it adds the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to the FBA fulfillment fee (you can switch it off), and applies the $0.30 minimum referral fee.

Where do I find my fulfillment fees?
- Amazon FBA: use the fee preview for your item in Seller Central or Amazon’s revenue calculator. From October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027, add Amazon’s holiday peak fee (an average of $0.32 per unit) in “other costs”.
- Walmart WFS: WFS fees are based on shipping weight, starting at $3.45 for items of 1 lb or less, $4.95 for 2 lb and $5.45 for 3 lb. Items priced under $10 add $1.00, and apparel adds $0.50 (Walmart Marketplace Learn, “WFS fees”, updated May 27, 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Is it cheaper to sell on Walmart or Amazon?
Referral fees are the same in most categories (15%). The difference usually comes from fulfillment fees, Amazon’s surcharges, apparel above $20 (17% on Amazon vs 15% on Walmart) and your selling price on each marketplace. Enter your own numbers to see your answer.
Does higher profit per unit mean I should sell there?
Not on its own. Total profit also depends on how many units sell on each marketplace. Many sellers list on both.
Are Walmart referral fees charged on shipping?
Yes. Walmart calculates the referral fee on the total sale price, including shipping and gift wrap. Enter a price that includes any shipping you charge.
