Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) added long-term storage fees on June 30, 2026, and the October–December storage surcharge is coming up. If you store slow-moving stock with WFS, this is the time to check how old it is. Here are the current rates, how Walmart counts inventory age, and what to do with aged units.

How does Walmart count inventory age?
Walmart applies the long-term storage fee “on the 366th day from the date it was received in the warehouse”. The clock starts when WFS receives the unit, not when you created the shipment. Long-term storage charges appear as separate lines in your Storage and Settlement reports.
Storage is charged by volume. Walmart calculates unit cubic feet as length × width × height in inches, divided by 1,728. A box of 12 × 10 × 8 inches is 960 ÷ 1,728 = 0.56 cubic feet.
What does aged inventory cost? An example
Say you have 300 units of that 0.56 cubic foot box, about 167 cubic feet in total:
- Standard storage (January–September): 167 × $0.75 = about $125 a month.
- Long-term rate at 366–450 days: 167 × $2.25 = about $376 a month.
- Long-term rate after 450 days: 167 × $7.50 = about $1,253 a month.
Walmart’s fee guide lists the long-term rates separately from standard storage but doesn’t state whether they’re charged instead of or on top of the standard rate. Check your Storage report after the first long-term charge so you know the real total.
Where to find aged inventory in Seller Center
- WFS Overview page: an aged inventory tile.
- Inventory page, “Surplus and aged” tab: the “Aged units” column shows which items are affected.
- Inventory Health Report: columns for units in stock 271–365 days, 366–450 days and 450+ days. The 271–365 column shows what will start paying long-term fees within about three months.
What to do with aged units
Walmart’s aged inventory guide gives these options:
- Sell through it: lower the price, improve the listing’s quality, and use Sponsored Search ads or search marketing to bring in buyers.
- Use Multichannel Solutions: fulfill orders from your other sales channels out of WFS stock.
- Remove it: ship the units back to your warehouse or have them disposed of. Both options charge a per-unit fee.
A simple rule: if a unit will reach 366 days before it’s likely to sell, compare the per-unit removal fee with the monthly long-term fee and the price cut needed to sell it. Act on the cheapest option before the fee starts, not after.
A pre-Q4 checklist
- Pull the Inventory Health Report and sort by the 271–365 day column.
- Stop sending more units of items with over 180 days of stock.
- Plan price changes or promotions for aged items in September, before the October peak surcharge.
- Book removals for items that won’t sell in time.
- Send fast sellers in smaller, more frequent shipments so they don’t sit through the peak surcharge.
Common mistakes
- Only checking total units. Age matters more than quantity. A few old, bulky units can cost more than a large, fast-moving stock.
- Waiting for the fee to show up. By then the item already has 366 days of stock age.
- Sending a year of stock to get a better freight rate. Storage and long-term fees can cancel out the freight saving.
USA vs Canada
WFS Canada has its own rates in CAD: $0.80 per cubic foot per month for storage, $1.70 extra at peak for items stored more than 30 days, and $7 per cubic foot per month for items stored more than a year. Source: Walmart Marketplace Learn Canada, “WFS Fees” (updated June 26, 2026).
